Grab your Early Bird tickets for this new LGBTQIA+ night today (19 December). Coming from the people that brought you Out & Wild, the UK’s biggest festival for LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people, say hello to the hottest new night celebrating female music artists: Out & Wild In The City.
Taking place at The Lower Third in Denmark Street, the opening event on 26 January will feature singer Natalie Gray and DJ Ariela. There are already at least six Out & Wild In The City events planned.
Polly Shute, Founder of Out & Wild Festival and Events, said: “As Out & Wild has grown, so many music acts we have booked have complained about a lack of representation and crucially, gig time, even at LGBTQIA+ events and Prides. Our festival has helped change that, and now we want to bring the ethos to UK cities, starting with London. And what better location than Denmark Street, London’s music epicentre.”
While there are now 250 Prides in the UK, many female musicians have found it hard to find their spaces on the main stage. Out & Wild In The City hopes to platform the voices who have historically been undervalued or underrepresented. These events also offer LGBTQIA+ women and non-binary people the chance to meet in real life, forming real connections accompanied by some fantastic music.
Musician Rona Mac added: “In an industry that’s dominated by mass sex appeal, making headway as a queer artist can be hard. I find it hard to find spaces that feel like I fit. Queer spaces are an exception, but the typical ‘gay club’ style events are very male-dominated, and also often heavily oriented around pop, dance, techno, and sex. It’s not often that the softer side of queerness is demonstrated, especially on bigger stages.”
