In 2021, renowned poet and performance artist Andrea Gibson was diagnosed with ovarian cancer. Ever since their diagnosis, Andrea and their wife, fellow poet Megan Falley, committed a lot of their time to creating art about living with a terminal diagnosis. Over the years, many have been inspired by the way Andrea appeared to not only find a silver lining through all the hardships, but also was evidently full of even more love and appreciation for life.

The legendary artist passed away earlier this year on 14 July. Now, four months later, Come See Me in the Good Light – a film that documents Andrea and Megan facing what they know could be their last year together, with strength, love (and an unexpected amount of hilarity) is coming to select cinemas and Apple TV on 14 November. The film is wonderfully life-affirming and Andrea and Megan’s queer love story is at the centre of the story.

This film depicts an epic romance. We watch these two poets and lovers hold each other. We see them receive bad news and cry together. But more than that, we watch them choose each other, over and over. We watch them laugh together in the dappled sunlight with their dogs. We see them  We watch them reminisce about the day that they met. We see them making raunchy jokes while hosting friends at a dinner party. They dance together, smile together and embrace the cards that have been dealt to them – seizing every moment they have.

And not only is queer love at the heart of the film, it also has a lot of DIVA-favourites behind it. It was instigated by producers Tig Notaro and Stef Willen. The film also features an original song written by executive producers Sara Bareilles and Brandi Carlile.

The Ryan White-directed film has also garnered lots of praise already through the film festival circuit. It’s a Sundance Audience Award-winning film and has undoubtedly touched the lives of viewers from all walks of life. It’ll make you want to fall in love with your life and hold your loved ones closer.

Come See Me in the Good Light is available to watch in select cinemas and on Apple TV from 14 November. You can watch a trailer below. You can also read our interview with Megan and Tig in our December/January issue, hitting shelves on 28 November.
