Fluid x NYX Professional Makeup: “There’s space for everybody”

NYX Professional Makeup speaks to this club night about why creating inclusive spaces will always lead to a good night out

Right now, we all could do with some queer joy and a good boogie on the dancefloor. Providing this is Fluid, the urban club night which connects LGBTQIA+ people through music and dance. Running monthly events, Fluid is cultivating community, and providing a space for Queer people and Queer People of Colour to feel celebrated.

Fluid is one of the trailblazing organisations that are being spotlighted this year by NYX Professional Makeup’s Proudly Pro-You brand initiative. Created in 2019 and launched in 2022, NYX Professional Makeup’s initiative aims to help uplift and platform the LGBTQIA+ and the LGBTQIA+ people of colour, alongside support organisations that are creating queer-safe spaces and places for our community.

The club night began as a house party, and has turned into a revolution. With an onus on creating safe spaces for everyone to feel included, Fluid has become a night that allows the queer community to let their hair down and just “vibe”.

In particular, Fluid has become a space for queer people of colour to feel represented. “We’re not a minority. I think that we are so set on thinking that we are a small space. We are not,” Ruby, Event Coordinator at Fluid, told NYX Professional Makeup.

“As a Jamaican girl, sometimes it can be hard to go to your queer spaces and hear the music of my culture. That is the joy itself. Seeing other people that are dressed like you, hair like you – that for me personally is my joy with Fluid.”

One of the biggest challenges Fluid has faced is making sure that every single person who steps through the door feels like the night is accessible to them. The result: the community has found a home on the dancefloor here. “That’s why I named it Fluid, because it’s just for everyone,” founder Joe continued.

With the help of NYX Professional Makeup, Fluid has been able to throw bigger and better parties this year for LGBTQIA+ people. Their next collab event with the brand is rumoured to be a Gala event, hosted at the end of November. “It’s nice as well for male, female, however you identify, to say that there is a makeup brand that is outwardly saying ‘We support you’.”

At a time where our community is facing threats from all around, Fluid is creating a safe haven for queer joy to flourish. “Everyone needs to remember: there’s space for everybody.”
