Trick, Treat, or Chappell Roan?

If you’re the type who plans Halloween down to a T, you probably have had mood boards on your Pinterest for months. If you’re still convinced you have “loads of time until Halloween”, we’re here to remind you that it’s never too early to get in gear. If you want sultry, sapphic, or spooky, we’ve got you covered with costume ideas that will channel all things gay, ghoulish, and gloriously 2025.
Pitch Perfect
Lesbehonest, the Barden Bellas have kind of become queer icons. While Pitch Perfect doesn’t really have that much queer representation within the movies, many cast members have since come out. Our favourite high-strung, vomiting, acapellaicon, Aubrey, is played by Anna Camp, who announced her relationship with Jade Whipkey this year. Pay homage this Halloween and don a yellow neckerchief and navy suit – maybe be prepared to hold a tune too. You could also go as Becca and Chloe, the Barden Bellas who have been historically shipped together by fans.
Chappell Roan
Chappell Roan is our Queen of Costumes – if she’s not a full-blown Lady Liberty replica, she’s a swan, a cowgirl, and… Joan of Arc. If you’re creative, flamboyant, or even just a lover of ethereal, gothic fashion, look no further this Halloween. If you want to keep it timely and trending, get your construction hat and tool belt, maybe even some dungarees or a hi-vis, and drop in at your party as The Giver. If you want to go old-school, try prom queen Chappell, cheerleader Chappell, or pink, sparkly cowgirl Chappell. If you’re particularly daring, why not go as a Pink Pony and trot all the way to the Club?
Boygenius
Many Boygenius fans were delighted this year when two members of the supergroup confirmed their romance. Lucy Dacus and Julien Baker went public together in March 2025, after a lot of speculation from fans. In honour of the two announcing their relationship, why not dress up as them this spooky season? You could even invite a third to be Phoebe Bridgers, whose ghost-slash-skeleton brand and looks are right on theme. Think ties, suits, and a mountain of fun badges. Or, what about the trio’s creative and iconic Holy Trinity look?
Your favourite sports gay
Keep it classic this season and dress up as an athlete for your Halloween bash. Women’s sports are full of queer representation, from the WNBA to the Women’s Rugby World Cup. There is an abundance of sports, teams, and players to choose from for your look – simply find a full kit, a prop of your choice (basketball, football, scrum cap, you get the vibe), and invest in some fake blood to stick to the horror theme.
Kristen Stewart
2025 saw queer icon Kristen Stewart tie the knot with fiancé Dylan Meyer. Stewart has given us many memorable characters over the years, so why not dress up as one of her iconic looks? Go for awkward autumnal pre-vampire Bella Swan from Twilight or even red-eyed, bloodthirsty post-bite Bella. Flex your muscles, a tank top, and blood spattered face as lesbian gym-owner Lou from Love Lies Bleeding. You could even combine two holidays, and go as bleach blonde red-suit-wearing Abby from The Happiest Season.
Wednesday
In line with the release of the well-anticipated season two of the Addams Family spin-off Wednesday, it’s only right to include our favourite spooky duo. Enid and Wednesday are a fun and ghoulish pairing – Enid, a playful and eclectic young werewolf with pink streaks, and Wednesday, sombre, gothic, and eerie. Enid and Wednesday have also been shipped together by the fanbase since the beginning of the show, with actors Jenna Ortega and Emma Myers both previously commenting on the pair’s chemistry, making this a great partner or solo costume…
