The cast of Netflix US’s smash hit The Hunting Wives appeared thrilled to see a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) parody of their show.
Aubrey Plaza made a surprise appearance on the most recent episode of SNL (11 October) to participate in a sketch of the lesbian murder mystery series.
Actresses Malin Åkerman, Katie Lowes and Jaime Ray Newman quickly shared their reaction, with Katie posting a video of the group watching and laughing at the SNL sketch on a phone backstage during the 35th EMA Awards Gala in Studio City. They appeared to thoroughly enjoy the parody of their characters.
As Aubrey made her onscreen debut as a “newcomer” to the East Texan girl group, Malin, Katie, and Jaime erupted into squeals of delight, evidently pleased by the appearance. The video ended with them asking Aubrey to “come play with us!”
The sketch, starring Amy Poehler as Malin Åkerman’s Margo and Chloe Fineman as Brittany Snow’s Sophie, satirised the return of the hit lesbian Netflix series, with Out labelling it a “steamy, hilarious, and epic SNL moment.”
The sketch aptly started with a voiceover: “Millions of Americans tuned in for season one of The Hunting Wives, the straight but lesbian, horny, Republican, murder drama. And now it’s back for more.”
Based on May Cobb’s 2021 bestselling novel of the same name, season one of The Hunting Wives followed Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she moved to a town in East Texas and fell into the socialite world of Margo (Malin Åkerman). Sophie quickly becomes embroiled in the socialite’s covert, often gun-wielding, raunchy misadventures.
Netflix has now confirmed that the show will return for a second series, much to the delight of devoted viewers. Season one is currently available only to US viewers.
