The cast of Netflix US’s smash hit The Hunting Wives appeared thrilled to see a recent Saturday Night Live (SNL) parody of their show.

Aubrey Plaza made a surprise appearance on the most recent episode of SNL (11 October) to participate in a sketch of the lesbian murder mystery series.

Actresses Malin ƅkerman, Katie Lowes and Jaime Ray Newman quickly shared their reaction, with Katie posting a video of the group watching and laughing at the SNL sketch on a phone backstage during the 35th EMA Awards Gala in Studio City. They appeared to thoroughly enjoy the parody of their characters.

As Aubrey made her onscreen debut as a ā€œnewcomerā€ to the East Texan girl group, Malin, Katie, and Jaime erupted into squeals of delight, evidently pleased by the appearance. The video ended with them asking Aubrey to ā€œcome play with us!ā€

The sketch, starring Amy Poehler as Malin ƅkerman’s Margo and Chloe Fineman as Brittany Snow’s Sophie, satirised the return of the hit lesbian Netflix series, withĀ OutĀ labelling it a ā€œsteamy, hilarious, and epic SNL moment.ā€Ā

The sketch aptly started with a voiceover: ā€œMillions of Americans tuned in for season one of The Hunting Wives, the straight but lesbian, horny, Republican, murder drama. And now it’s back for more.ā€

Based on May Cobb’s 2021 bestselling novel of the same name, season one of The Hunting Wives followed Sophie (Brittany Snow) as she moved to a town in East Texas and fell into the socialite world of Margo (Malin ƅkerman). Sophie quickly becomes embroiled in the socialite’s covert, often gun-wielding, raunchy misadventures.

Netflix has now confirmed that the show will return for a second series, much to the delight of devoted viewers. Season one is currently available only to US viewers.
