Lena Waithe’s hit series Twenties remains a fan favourite within the LGBTQIA+ community, celebrated for its unapologetic representation of Black queerness. Following the story of aspiring screenwriter Hattie and her two straight best friends, the show captured the complexities of friendship, identity and ambition against the vibrant backdrop of Los Angeles.

Though Twenties wrapped in 2021, the show’s legacy lives on – not just in its cultural impact but also through the incredible projects its stars have taken on since. Here’s where you can catch up with the cast today.

Jojo T. Gibbs (Hattie)

As the effortlessly charming, sometimes chaotic Hattie, Jojo T. Gibbs stole the spotlight and carved out space for a new kind of lead on television: masc, queer and uncompromisingly authentic. Since the show ended, Jojo has gone from strength to strength in film. Horror fans will remember her as Mollie in the unsettling chiller Flesh, while indie lovers praised her heartbreaking turn as Janice in Celine Song’s acclaimed debut Past Lives. In 2023, Jojo took on an entirely new challenge, starring opposite Caleb Landry Jones in the French action thriller Dogman, where she played psychiatrist Evelyn.

Christina Elmore (Marie)

In Twenties, Christina Elmore gave us Marie, Hattie’s career-driven straight best friend, balancing ambition with her personal life. Off-screen, Christina has continued to flourish in high-profile roles. She joined the cast of Issa Rae’s beloved HBO series Insecure, playing Condola Hayes. Most recently, Christina has been seen in the political drama The Girl On The Bus, portraying Kimberlyn Anaya Kendrick, a sharp and determined reporter for a conservative network.

Gabrielle Graham (Nia)

As Nia, the free-spirited yoga instructor and best friend with a calming presence, Gabrielle Graham quickly became a fan favourite. Post-Twenties, she has kept her career diverse and exciting. Gabrielle starred in the quirky sci-fi comedy Relax, I’m From The Future. She also took on more dramatic territory in Netflix’s limited series The Madness, playing Kallie Daniels alongside powerhouse actor Colman Domingo.

Sophina Brown (Ida B)

Sophina Brown made waves as Ida B, the formidable and captivating studio executive who blurred the lines between professional mentorship and personal chemistry with Hattie. Since her standout performance in Twenties, Sophina has ventured into science fiction. She appeared in the FX series Kindred, based on Octavia E. Butler’s iconic novel, where she played Sarah.

Shylo Shaner (Idina)

Rounding out the cast, Shylo Shaner portrayed Idina, one of Ida B’s assistants who often found herself caught between office politics and Hattie’s misadventures. Since Twenties, Shylo has been carving out a name for herself in socially conscious projects. She appeared in A Man On The Inside, which tackled themes of identity and justice, and took on a thought-provoking role in Decision Day: Planned Parenthood.
