The Invisible Majority Report, conducted by TAIMI, found that 33% of bisexual folk still feel pressure to “prove” their sexuality when in LGBTQIA+ spaces

According to the William’s Institute and the Human Rights Campaign, bisexual people make up 50% of the people who identify as lesbian, gay or bisexual. People who use this label for their sexual orientation are undoubtedly a majority within our marginalised LGBTQIA+ community. And yet, biphobia is very much alive and well.
TAIMI is a celebrated and fully inclusive dating app that is created for all members of the LGBTQIA+ community. And earlier this month TAIMI published its findings from its The Invisible Majority report. The findings highlight the lived experience of bisexual daters.
The key findings were:
- 33% of bisexual respondents still feel pressure to “prove” their sexuality when in LGBTQIA+ spaces
- 63% felt their sexuality is understood differently in queer spaces compared to straight spaces
- Bisexual women face more prejudice on dating apps compared to bisexual men
Rebecca Minor, LICSW, a gender and identity therapist and the founder of Bi+ (in)visibility stated: “The biggest misconception is that bisexuality equals untrustworthiness. Attraction to more than one gender doesn’t mean disloyalty – trust is about values, not orientation. Yet this stereotype continues to harm bi+ people by casting doubt on our relationships. To dismantle it, we need to name it when we see it, highlight healthy and committed bi+ partnerships, and push back against the myth that queerness undermines integrity.”
