Not sure what to do with yourself now that the 2025 Women’s Euro tournament is over? We’re right there with you – along with, we’re sure, many of the 12.2 million viewers who tuned in to watch England’s victory over Spain in this year’s final. Aka the most-watched television moment of 2025 across all TV broadcasters, according to the BBC.
While there’s certainly no limit on how long we can celebrate England’s triumph, plenty of us are now also looking for ways to indulge in more women’s football content before the new WSL season starts in September. Something other than watching edits of Lucy Bronze’s leg strapping…
Here are four things to do to fill the Lioness-sized hole in your heart until the back-to-back Women’s Euro-winning players are back on the pitch next month.
Watch Bend It Like Beckham (and theorise its sequel)
General consensus on the vibes the literal day before the historic Women’s Euros’ final? Hopeful. Nervous. Excited. And director Gurinder Chadha knew just how to double the intensity with one simple announcement: Bend It Like Beckham is getting a sequel.
Fans of the noughties classic already have their theories for the sequel, from finally giving Jess and Jules the sapphic storyline we’ve been craving since the film’s release in 2002 to replacing Jess’s idolisation of Beckam with a (healthy) obsession with Bronze. Sounds like the perfect time for a rewatch to us!
Read sweet, sapphic – and spicy – stories
Searching for a fun and flirty football story with a side of royalty to add to your summer TBR? The Princess Match by Clare Lydon sees England’s fictional future queen in a fiery relationship with the fictional Lionesses’ captain. When their relationship hits the headlines, the game is changed forever.
Or if you’re open to a spicy but sweet soccer story, take a look at Cleat Cute by Meryl Wilsner, a rivals-to-lovers story of two teammates playing in New Orleans. Newbie Phoebe starts to slowly break down fan-favourite Grace’s walls as they begin a steamy friends-with-benefits relationship.
Discover the Women’s World Cup that was wiped from history
Use the off-season to learn some hidden football history and watch Copa 71, a documentary film that shines a light on the unofficial, record-breaking women’s World Cup tournament that was seemingly erased from the history books.
Narrated by tennis legend Serena Williams, the film follows the 1971 England team as they revisit memories of the Mexico-based tournament, which was ironically so popular, at least in part, because FIFA itself tried to block it.
Listen to the Sister Goals podcast
The Euros’ tournament may have finished, but that doesn’t mean the hype is over. The Sister Goals podcast from sisters Imani, Leila and Aesha brings listeners all the match highlights, WSL updates and drama from on and off the pitch to passionate footie fans.
The sisters divide everything you need to know into simple and accessible chunks, making it a great listen for seasoned fans or newer followers of the sport who’d like a rundown of all the key moments, athletes and issues that impact the sport. It’s a great way to stay involved in the conversation and keep updated on all your favourite players and teams.
Packing your summer with these fun football-adjacent activities means the countdown to the Lionesses being back on our screens will fly by… We hope!
