THE BUTCH ISSUE would undoubtedly be incomplete without DIVA-favourite Horse. Throughout her 35-year music career, she has provided fans with unapologetic and much-needed butch visibility. She’s a butch hero and icon to many butches (including comedian Susie McCabe who is also featured in these pages).
In her interview with editor-in-chief Roxy Bourdillon, Horse got candid about her relationship with her fanbase, the highs and lows of her journey in the music industry and embracing herself.
Our butch issue is available to buy from 25 July. Here’s a teaser for what Horse had to say on…
Trying to find her style at the start of her career: “I was butch, but I didn’t really know how to present myself, and I wasn’t supported.”
The rising aggression towards the trans community: “We just have to keep together as a community and keep moving forward.”
Wisdom she’s learned along the way: “One key thing I’ve learned is to choose your battles.”
DIVA magazine celebrates 31 years in print in 2025. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA+ media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
