Known as the directorial debut of the Wachowski sisters, Bound (1996) is an erotic crime thriller that revolves around Corky (Gina Gershon), an ex-con who has recently got out of jail. Corky works as a painter in an apartment building in Chicago where Violet (Jennifer Tilly), an alluring closeted lesbian who is in a relationship with a gangster named Ceaser, lives. The two women start having an affair and decide to steal two million dollars from the mafia and blame it on Violet’s boyfriend.
Love Lies Bleeding (2024)
This neo-noir thriller takes place in 1989 and it follows Jackie (Katy O’Brian), a female bodybuilder heading to Las Vegas for a competition, who encounters Lou (Kristen Stewart), a gym manager with a sketchy father. After their meeting, Lou offers Jackie steroids. While the couple falls in love, they eventually find themselves in Lou’s father’s crimes.
The Runaways (2010)
Based on the memoir Neon Angel written by the band’s lead singer Cherie Currie and Tony O’Neill, The Runaways is about how the real-life all-girl rock band with the same name was formed by Joan Jett (Kristen Stewart). The film explores the young girl’s rise to fame and their personal relationships with each other. The film also stars Dakota Fanning, Riley Keough and Alia Shawkat alongside Kristen Stewart.
Nowhere (1997)
A dramedy about Dark (James Duval) and Mel (Rachel True), a polygamous bisexual couple. Mel’s lesbian girlfriend, Lucifer (Kathleen Robertson), and the guy Dark is interested in named Montgomery (Nathan Bexton) navigate their artsy lives in Los Angeles as they plan to attend a wild party.
Gia (1998)
The film was based on the real-life story of the late queer supermodel Gia Marie Carangi (Angelina Jolie). The film depicts her life from her childhood to her death as she navigates her life in the modelling industry and her drug addiction while falling in love with a young makeup artist.
