Moments from The Ultimatum: Queer Love reunion that shocked us

From arguments to heartwarming stories, here’s everything we loved (and hated) about the reunion

Warning: spoilers ahead!

DIVAs, quick! The drama has truly kicked off. After laughing and crying our way through nine episodes of pure chaos, the reunion has finally arrived. This year’s The Ultimatum: Queer Love saw an unprecedented five out of six couples say “I do” at the end. But who has stayed together?

To get you up to speed, Ultimatum: Queer Love sees six couples come together for an experiment like no other. One person has issued an ultimatum: get married or break up. Naturally, the best thing to do in that scenario is to break up for three weeks, date all the other couples and then live together with a stranger in a trial marriage. Right?

If the drama from the series was not enough for you, the reunion certainly will give you a lot to talk about. Here’s the moments that had us shook.

Finding out that AJ and Britney were sneaking around during their trial marriages

The pair looked incredibly happy at the reunion, and there’s potentially a pretty obvious reason why their love survived the experiment: they weren’t really doing it right. During the first trial marriages, the idea is to completely dedicate yourself to your new partner – and that often means going no-contact (or at least less contact) with the partner you came with. AJ and Britney apparently did a lot of sneaking around together during the first set of trial marriages. While this wasn’t playing by the rules completely, their loved-up faces during the reunion mean we’ll let them off the hook.

Marita and Ashley’s explosive argument

As the only couple not to get engaged at the end of the show, we knew there might be some resentment brewing between the pair. From accusations of cheating on both sides to a lot of heated comments, this argument had clearly been brewing for a long time. While shocking things were said, it’s clear that there was a lot of pain on both sides.

Mel and Marie’s breakup, the food truck and Brussels Sprouts

We never thought a food truck would be so pivotal to a break up, but here we are. Sitting across from each other, it was clear that Mel and Marie’s engagement didn’t last for long. The pair exchanged icy words, and resentment about Mel and Dayna’s trial marriage clearly still bubbled. In a confusing turn, Marie brought up Mel making Dayna brussels sprouts, indicating that there was an undercurrent of malice going on. We never thought veg could be so controversial…

The cast discussing what sex looks like in queer relationships

Queer sex is often shunned from our classrooms and online discourse, so it was fantastic to see the show talk candidly about the different ways sex can look like for sapphic couples. While this segment was largely just AJ talking about fingering, it was great to see so many different interpretations of what sex looks like spoken about on screen.

Bridget’s hair

Heralded for their fantastic curls, Bridget has already been crowned the best hair in the cast. But at the reunion in particular, their curls looked magnificent. We’re happy to see Bridget and Kyle still together and working out how to navigate the future as a team.

Magan and Pilar opening up to their families

Both Magan and Pilar had spoken previously on the show about how a major block in them getting married was not having their parents’ approval. In the reunion, both revealed that they had introduced their partners – Dayna and Haley – to their families. While they admitted it had been hard, it was beautiful to see just how confident and happy they looked being able to be their authentic selves.
