On the 45th season of the American reality TV series Survivor, viewers were introduced to Katurah Topps and Sabiyah Broderick. And now, fans of the show are kicking their feet in delight as the two women hard launched their relationship on Instagram by uploading a carousel post of their love. The caption read: On Survivor, we both struggled with fire🔥 I couldn’t make it and she went a week without it. But what we’ve built together? That’s a fire that finally lit itself! ❤️‍🔥❤️‍🔥 from Players to Partners, from Castmates to Co-dreamers… Meet Survivor’s FIRST Black Queer Woman Couple✨🏳️‍🌈”

For those not familiar with Survivor, the series follows contestants who are stranded on a remote island and try to survive on it while facing challenging tasks in order to win the grand prize.

While Katurah and Sabiyah were on the same season of the show and had met on the plane to Fiji, they were placed on different tribes upon arrival and didn’t get close until after the show had finished filming.

The Survivor alums just celebrated their six-month anniversary this Pride month. We can’t wait to see their love story continue to unfold.

And while we’re out here celebrating Black queer love, let’s take a look at some more celeb couples who are proudly displaying this kind of love in the mainstream…

Niecy Nash and Jessica Betts

If you are a fan of a friend-to-lovers romance, then I’m sure Niecy and Jessica are sure to be one of your fave celebrity couples. They first sparked a friendship back in 2015 over social media and bonded over their shared love of music. Fast forward to 2020, and the power couple got en-gay-ged and tied the knot in the same year. In 2022, the soul mates became the first same-sex couple to feature on the cover of Essence magazine. In the years that have since passed, they continue to proudly display their love.

Sydney Loren Bennett and Ariana Simone

It’s often said that couples should avoid working together because it can take away the spark, but that’s clearly not true for many of the celebs on this list, including musician Syd and model Ariana Simone. It was great to see Ariana make out and get steamy with Syd in her Fast Car music video.

Brittney and Cherelle Griner

Not only is Brittney a three-time Olympic gold medalist, she’s also a six-time WMBA All-Star and her wife, Cherelle, is a lawyer who graduated from North Carolina Central University School of Law in May 2022. The lovebirds met in college and got married in 2019. The loved up couple welcomed their first child together in July 2024.

Shawntae Harris-Dupart and Jesseca “Judy” Harris-Dupart

Better known as rapper Da Brat and Judy, CEO of Kaleidoscope Hair Products – these two Black women have undoubtedly brought Black sapphic love into the mainstream. If you’d like to read more about their epic love story from their mouths, then you can try to get your hands on our May 2023 issue which featured the lovers on our cover. While their relationship has certainly been tested, they continue to fight for their love.

And what’s better than a music video with one Black queer couple? Well, one with two, of course! Check out Da Brat’s Have U 2 Myself music video featuring Jessica Betts and both of them have their wives in the video too!
