Overcompensating star Mary Beth Barone shared her plans for this year’s Pride on the red carpet last week, and her answer left the internet in a frenzy.
The actor, who is best known for playing Grace in the queer coming-of-age series Overcompensating, attended The Hollywood Reporter and GLAAS’s The Celebration Of Pride event on 11 June and was asked about her plans for Pride Month.
“I’m going to have sex with women,” Barone said. “I think that’s the best way I can do it.”
Many internet users were shocked as they hadn’t realised Barone was queer.
Long-time followers of the star will know that she’s spoken openly about being bisexual in her stand-up comedy. In an Instagram post from June 2020, Barone addressed her sexuality saying: “I’m bisexual but that’s really none of your business! Just kidding happy pride.”
The Celebration Of Pride event drew a crowd of guests from the LGBTQIA+ community to West Hollywood, where they danced, chatted, and gathered as a community. Before the event, GLAAD’s VP of Communication Anthony Allen Ramos told THR: “I think more than ever it’s important to be loud and proud and vocal.”
Overcompensating was released on 15 May and was created by Benito Skinner, who based the series on his own life. The show, which has received critical acclaim, is available to stream on Prime Video.
