Queer Britain is always the place to be during Pride month, and this year is no exception. To celebrate, the UK’s first national LGBTQIA+ museum has a great programme of events focused on the theme of Activism and Change, including an incredible exhibition celebrating 20 years of UK Black Pride.

The exhibition will open today (4 June) and will run until 31 August. It has been curated in collaboration with UK Black Pride and their founder, Lady Phyll. For 20 years, the movement has evolved, from a small gathering in Southend-on-Sea to the world’s largest celebration for Global Majority LGBTQIA+ people. It has been a safe space to celebrate diverse sexualities, gender identities, cultures and backgrounds for two decades. Its history will be celebrated in this exhibition.

Throughout the summer, there will be a series of talks that highlight LGBTQIA+ history. On 14 June, Sir Nick Partridge and Richard Angell will be discussing the history behind the Terry Higgins Memorial Quilt Discussion. This will be preceded by an exhibition of the quilt itself from 11-15 June.

On 23 June, there will be a talk that asks an incredibly important question: Is transphobia the new homophobia?

Finally, on 2 July, TimeOut London and Queer Britain will come together to discuss activism and social change, from the first Pride March in London to today.
