Season four of the Emmy-winning comedy Hacks may be airing this Thursday (29 May), but that is not the end! The show has already been renewed for a fifth season.

Hacks is beloved for its authentic queer representation and hilarious yet emotionally truthful storylines. The series follows the love-hate relationship between Deborah Vance (Jean Smart), a washed-up comedy star, and writer Ava (Hannah Einbinder).

So far, the series has been nominated for 48 Emmys, and season three won Outstanding Comedy Series at the last awards show. Universal TV President Erin Underhill said, “Like Deborah Vance herself, Hacks only gets bolder, sharper, and more iconic with time.”

Season four has been the most watched season so far, according to Variety. Deborah and Ava’s relationship is at its frostiest, after the third season saw Deborah become the host of a talk show and Ava blackmailed her boss into giving her the head writer job.

Over the past four seasons, fans have come to love the relationship between Deborah and Ava, with many – including Hannah Einbinder herself – hoping the two will embark on a romantic relationship. Throughout season four, fans took to X to express their admiration for the show.

One user shared an edit of the season and referred to it as a “masterpiece”.

Another posted screengrabs of a touching moment between Deborah and Ava and called it one of the “most romantic scenes of the year”.
