The organisers of the event have voiced their fears for the safety of trans+ attendees under Trump’s administration

Organisers of WorldPride 2025, set to take place in Washington, DC, are considering issuing a travel warning for trans people amid growing concerns over anti-LGBTQIA legislation under Donald Trump’s new administration.
Since taking office as the 47th president of the United States in January, Trump has enacted a wave of executive orders targeting LGBTQIA rights: many of which specifically affect the trans community. These include restricting access to gender-affirming care for trans people under 19, banning trans Americans from serving in the military, and declaring that the US Government recognises “only two sexes”.
In response, Ryan Bos, executive director of Capital Pride Alliance, which is organising WorldPride has said that a public safety warning may be necessary, as reported by NBC News.
“It’s possible that we may actually issue a statement telling trans folks internationally not to come, or if they come, they come at their own risk,” Bos said.
Devon Ojeda, senior national organiser for Advocates for Trans Equality, added that the daily reality for many trans Americans is already precarious. “This is something that my community faces every day – worrying whether or not a space is going to be safe for them.”
WorldPride 2025 is set to be a major global celebration of LGBTQIA communities, with the World Pride Music Festival taking place on 6–7 June at RFK Festival Grounds in Washington, DC. Headliners include Troye Sivan and Jennifer Lopez, with Kim Petras and Tinashe also confirmed to perform.
As the political climate in the US grows increasingly hostile toward trans rights, WorldPride organisers and community advocates are grappling with how to ensure safety without sacrificing visibility or solidarity.
