The footballer opened up about their relationship and GK Barry’s WAG status

Whether it’s on the internet, her podcast or around the campfire on I’m A Celeb, GK Barry’s candid and open conversations about her bisexuality have made her a beacon of representation. But not only is she a source of comfort and relatability for us, she is her girlfriend’s “rock”.
Ella Rutherford, GK’s girlfriend and footballer, opened up about the relationship on The Kickback on talkSPORT last Friday (5 April). She said, as soon as they met, GK played a massive part in her happiness. “She’s been a massive part of my happiness, keeping me on track, giving me a safe space to go,” she said. “She really just became, straight away, as soon as I met her, that rock.”
In fact, Ella said: “She’s been a massive part of why I’m so happy on the outside.” She added that, since they met, “she’s changed my life for the better”.
But, surely a question on many people’s minds is: What is GK like as a WAG? “She’s flourished in her WAG era,” says Ella. The striker for Ipswich Town admitted her girlfriend doesn’t know much about the sport – “At the start, I was banging my head because she didn’t know what goal we were scoring in or what team we were” – but that she’s trying to understand and has still been a massive support.
It’s not certain how long Ella and GK have been in a relationship, but it was confirmed in August 2024 after months of rumours. On I’m A Celeb, GK opened up about coming out to her parents about her relationship, saying they would ask who Ella was and eventually, she just said: “She’s my girlfriend”.
