Have you noticed your dating apps feeling a bit stagnant recently? As the sun finally peaks out and the trees bloom, it might be time to consider doing some digital spring cleaning. Put down the mop and get your thinking cap on!

Hinge has just launched their guide to help daters refresh their profiles for the new season. If you’re not seeing the responses you want to receive on dating apps, perhaps try out some of these tips to help your profile blossom.

Which prompts should you refresh?

Do you tend to answer your profile prompts with just one word? It might be worth taking a moment to bulk these out, inviting potential matches to get to know you.

We’re sick of seeing generic answers to prompts. Why not add some of your own humour to your profile? Forget the cliches or overused responses, daters want to see the real you.

Moe Ari Brown, Hinge’s Love + Connection Expert, believes this is the way to representing your true self. “People want to see you; the spark in your humour, the softness in your smile, the passions that light you up. This is your moment to shine, so let your personality take up space. But also offer little windows into your world; your routines, your values, your dreams.”

Moe adds: “For queer daters especially, shared interests aren’t just small talk — they’re sacred signals. In fact, over half of LGBTQIA+ daters on Hinge (55%) say seeing someone’s interests on their profile makes them want to reach out, and 52% prefer starting conversations around mutual hobbies.”

Which photos should you refresh?

Be honest with yourself, do you really look the same as you did five years ago? We didn’t think so. Keep your photos up to date and show your true personality.

“The most magnetic profiles are not the most polished; they are the most authentic,” Moe Ari Brown, Hinge’s Love + Connection Expert, says. “You should show potential matches who you are right now – not who you were, who you think you need to be for others, or even who you hope to be in the future.”

“For gender expansive people, I always encourage you to present in ways that encourage euphoria and alignment! Dress in what makes you feel attractive. Share the version of your story that feels most freeing, not just the most palatable. Not only will you feel more confident, it will radiate from you and be apparent to others.”

It’s time to ditch the sunglasses or masks! Potential matches want to see your gorgeous face. Similarly, maybe ditch the group photos – we want to know which one you are.

This one may be controversial, but it’s time to lose those gym pics. Okay, we love to see a muscle mommy. However only three per cent of successful Hinge daters said that their profile included these pics. Maybe save them for after the first date…

Why should you refresh?

Logan Ury, Hinge’s Director of Relationship Science, said: “Your profile is your chance to give people a window into your world. It’s important to make the most of it. Help them imagine what it’s like to date you by painting a vivid picture of your life. The key is to showcase different sides of yourself – humour, vulnerability, and everything in between.”
