Love On The Spectrum season three
2 April
It’s back for a third season, featuring a whole new roster of singles (and a few familiar faces). This year, Pari joins the cast – a train enthusiast, lover of the colour purple, and proud member of the queer community. She’s looking for someone who shares her interests, and hoping for a happy ending. Love On The Spectrum breaks down barriers about who can fall in love and the new season promises to be a tender, romantic, and sometimes hilarious journey.
Hacks season four
10 April
Calling all comedy fans! Tensions rise in season four of Hacks, as Deborah Vance, an iconic relic of the Vegas stand-up scene, clashes with Ava Daniels, a millennial comedy writer. The chaotic duo ended season three on decidedly frosty terms, but will they get their late-night show off the ground – I guess you’ll have to watch it and see.
The Handmaid’s Tale season six
8 April
If you haven’t already seen the first five seasons of this gripping show, you absolutely should. The Handmaid’s Tale is a classic for a reason, adapted from the book by Margaret Atwood with seasons which get progressively gayer. Fans are hoping for more exploration of Emily and Moira’s lesbianism in the upcoming season, which promises drama and tension as the fight to bring down Gilead ensues. Be warned – you’ll find your eyeballs are glued to the TV screen as soon as you start watching.
Black Mirror
10 April
The wait is finally over, but are you ready for what comes next? Prepare yourself for more tech nightmares, dystopian visions of the future, and twisted plotlines in the new instalment of Charlie Brooker’s satirical, sci-fi series. The star-studded cast features Emma Corrin, a legendary queer and non-binary actor, alongside Peter Capaldi, Issa Rae, Awkwafina and more. There’s going to be violence, humour, and a black-and-white romance which pays homage to classic Hollywood cinema. Don’t miss it.
The Last of Us season two
13 April
Fungal infections, zombies, a post-apocalyptic vision of America, and queer relationships – this show has it all. Season one of The Last of Us set viewership records for HBO, and the second instalment promises fresh stories, characters and surprises. Kaitlyn Dever will be joining the cast as Abby, and Isabela Merced as Dina – Ellie’s partner – as she embarks on a quest to avenge a murder.
The Wedding Banquet
18 April (US)
In this riotous new romantic comedy, a gay man and a lesbian strike a deal: he gets a green-card marriage, and she gets in vitro fertilisation treatments – sound like a fair trade right? Directed by Andrew Ahn, The Wedding Banquet is a remake of the 1993 film of the same name. It will star Lily Gladstone and Bowen Yang in the lead roles, and it’s sure to be a riotous, crowd-pleaser of a film. The hit film will be coming to UK cinemas on 9 May.
On Swift Horses
25 April
When Lee returns from the Korean War, he and his wife Muriel begin a new life in 1950s California. That is until Lee’s charismatic brother Julius arrives. He introduces the newlyweds to a world of horseracing, secrets, and forbidden longing which quickly envelops their marriage – Julius finds love with fellow gambler, Henry, and Muriel falls for her lesbian neighbour, Sandra. Jacob Elordi, playing Julius, described the film in Vanity Fair as “a sprawling, epic, non-generic love story”.
