The trailer for Gabriel Canine’s groundbreaking short film FOLD has been released – and it’s incredibly moving. Telling the story of Riley and Salem, a trans and disabled couple, the film navigates care, intimacy, euphoria and change after top surgery.

When Riley receives a life-changing surgery, the dynamics in his relationship are forever changed. As his recovery continues, will the love of his life keep up with the pressure of caring for him, or fold? The film boasts an all-trans and majority-disabled cast and crew. Heartstopper’s Ash Self stars as Riley and Obsessions’s Sonera Angel is Salem.

“FOLD is a brilliant and real and vital story for this modern age,” said Sonera. It celebrates an authentic representation of the lives of marginalised people and the team behind it are currently looking for support to bring this incredibly important story to life. Broadcasters, distributors, funders and anyone else who thinks they can help in any way should email the team.

“FOLD is a story that would have changed my life so much if I had seen it when I was still coming to terms with who I was,” said writer and director Gabriel Canine. “It’s based on the real experiences of my community and provides a narrative of love and support meant to act as a warm embrace for anyone who wants it. If you find comfort in FOLD in any way – it’s for you.”
