Front woman for the legendary band Skunk Anansie, Skin gave the 90s and 00s a sound to beat their thumping hearts to. Formed in 1994, Skunk Anansie would go on to sell five million records worldwide, go on tour with icons like David Bowie and Lenny Kravitz, and perform across the world. They made history time and time again with their sound, with Skin even becoming the first Black woman to headline Glastonbury with their awe-defying 1999 performance. 30 years on from their inception, Skunk Anansie is still going strong with their latest release.
For our April/May issue, our Staff Writer Ella Gauci caught up with the icon to discuss the band’s new album The Painful Truth which you’ll be able to hear in May. You can read our full interview with Skin in our April/May issue, available to order now on divadirect.info.
Here’s a teaser of what the star told DIVA…
On the greatest moments of her career: “I’ve done some crazy shit”
On trans rights: “Trans rights are our rights. If they’re going for those people, they’ll go for you too”
On three decades of music: “At one point we thought we would not make it and that would be the end of the band”
