Ahead of the highly anticipated second season of The Last Of Us, Bella Ramsey, known for their portrayal of Ellie, opened up to Vogue about navigating love, sexuality, and the complexities of life in the public eye.
The Last Of Us season two, set to premiere on 14 April, will introduce Dina, a new character and love interest for Ellie. Bella shared what it was like to portray a character falling in love, while simultaneously experiencing similar emotions in their own life. “Experiencing that while I was filming the show was really special,” they revealed.
While unconfirmed who Bella may be “properly in love” with, many fans have speculated that they are dating My Old Ass star Maisy Stella. Their interactions, now shown only by deleted Instagram posts, include moments such as Maisy’s Instagram story from last year which featured multiple photos of her and Bella embracing and Bella giving Maisy a kiss on the cheek.
However, it’s understandable that Bella has kept their dating life under wraps as they like to keep their life as private as possible. While publicly identifying as non-binary in 2023, Bella talks about the struggles of trying to explore their gender and sexuality under the spotlight of the public eye. “It does make me a bit sad that people who aren’t in the public eye can explore their gender identity or sexuality in private. That’s a privilege I don’t really get any more. If I did want to explore other things, like facets of my gender identity, that would be done publicly.”
It’s important to remember that despite Bella Ramsey’s self-proclaimed “old soul”, they are still at the beginning of their journey. Therefore, we can truly appreciate the sentiment of their letter to themselves: “You don’t have to know. You can just be, and be proud.”
