Trans+ History Week CIC and QueerAF have launched their 2025 downloadable Workbook, helping to shine a light on forgotten or hidden trans+ history. Following the success of last year’s Workbook, which empowered people across the world to learn about trans+ history, this latest workbook is using powerful stories of trans+ trailblazers to inspire the next generation.
Composed of four main lessons, this workbook is designed to refute harmful narratives about the trans+ community, and reclaim trans+ history. Stretching across time, this Workbook is brimming with information about everything from Ballroom culture to motorsport drivers who helped to progress trans+ rights.
Marty Davies, founder of Trans+ History Week, said: “It’s never been more important to share the truth that ‘we’ve always been here and always will be’ to dismantle the modern myth that we’re new. We’re not, we are as old as time. Getting geeky about history helps us in our fight against efforts to delegitimise and erase us. Trans+ people are as enduring as the sun in the sky and the earth beneath our feet. So let’s make sure our history reaches politicians that are persecuting us and our trans+ youth who may be feeling hopeless and alone with a message that they belong.”
This year’s Workbook was developed through 80+ hours of research by Gray Burke-Stowe, and written by four trans+ writers: Adam Khan, Ella Osho, William Elisabeth Cuthbert, and Sabah Choudrey.
Jamie Wareham, founder of QueerAF, said: “There are few silver bullets in doing stories justice and getting media representation right, but investing in talent from the communities you are creating content about gets pretty close. There is a vast lack of representation of Trans+ people in the media, but what we see every week at QueerAF is how vast the talent pools are of creative talent in the Trans+ community.”
“Ultimately, they all hammer home our timeless message: We’ve always been here, and always will be.”
This year’s Trans+ History Week will take place between 5-11 May. To find out more, head to: wearequeeraf.com/dotheworkbook/
