BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival has announced that its Closing Night Gala will feature the UK premiere of Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon’s erotic thriller Night Stage. Taking place on 29 March, the tale of an actor and politician who enjoy having sex in public places will be coming to the big screen at BFI Southbank.
The highly anticipated film festival has also revealed that Shatara Michelle Ford’s road trip film Dreams In Nightmares will be showing as a Special Presentation on 23 March. The film follows three Black queer femmes as they take a trip across the Midwestern United States in search of their missing friend. Starring The Gilded Age’s Denée Benton and Russian Doll’s Charlie Barnett, the film is set to be a complete must-watch.
Speaking to BFI Flare, Ford said: “This is a major homecoming of sorts, as I came of age as a filmmaker in London, and the BFI holds a special place in my heart: it is where my unformed baby queer self spent the majority of my 20s; taking in all that BFI had to offer. This presentation is most fitting and I’m beyond thrilled to be sharing Dreams In Nightmares at BFI Flare.”
Filipe Matzembacher and Marcio Reolon added: “This will be one of the first screenings after its premiere at the Berlin Film Festival, and we can’t wait to see the festival audience’s reaction to this journey of desire and danger.”
Earlier this month, BFI Flare announced that the new sapphic retelling of The Wedding Banquet – starring Lily Gladstone – would be screening on its Opening Night. The film follows Angela and Lee, a couple who have been unlucky with their IVF treatments but can’t afford another round. Their friend Min, who isn’t out yet, has a lot of money but a soon-to-expire visa. The only natural solution to these problems? A green-card marriage between Angela and Min.
The full programme for BFI Flare: London LGBTQIA+ Film Festival will be revealed on Tuesday 18 February at 11 am.
