The non-binary icon has revealed their new name will be Jack Haven

The star of I Saw The TV Glow and Atypical has announced that they have changed their name to Jack Haven.
Posting to Instagram, the beloved non-binary icon revealed that their new name was inspired by their great-great uncle Haven Gillespie who wrote the Christmas hit Santa Claus Is Comin’ To Town. Accompanied by a picture of them facing a door, Jack wrote: “I am changing my name, going by Jack Haven now.”
They continued: “Two years ago in a workshop led by @saman_arastoo I began using this name. I said I was using it in safe spaces. Saman said use it in dangerous spaces. So I use it in the men’s bathroom.”
Fans were quick to show their support for this announcement. One user replied: “Very cool name, suits you a lot!” Drag Race Royalty Nina West also wrote: “I love you Jack Haven.”
This announcement came just days after Donald Trump’s inauguration speech where he announced that the federal government will only “recognise two sexes, male and female”.
Jack came out as non-binary in 2019 and announced they used they/them pronouns. Their role as Maddy in the cult queer film I Saw The TV Glow has garnered widespread celebration, earning nominations for the Gotham Awards, Independent Spirit Awards, and Dorian Awards. The film has been praised as a pertinent allegory for the trans experience
Speaking exclusively to DIVA last year, Jack said: “There’s something so condescending in telling a trans story that is just about shooting up hormones and being judged by your peers or whatever. That’s part of it, but being trans and being genderfluid and experiencing the vastness of the human soul is what transness is. The physical is just a tiny piece of it. It’s just about the way that we are to find love for our body and our soul.”
