“We will be a megaphone – amplifying the voice and reach of LGBTQIA women and non-binary people fighting for liberation and justice here in the UK and around the world”

DIVA magazine has now officially become a charity, set to give back to the LGBTQIA community that it has always served. This new part of DIVA’s legacy will see us amplifying the voices of more LGBTQIA trailblazers, uplifting the incredible organisations that are fighting for the rights of queer people globally, and raising awareness for the pressing issues which are affecting our community.

This new status comes just eight months after Nancy Kelley, Chief Executive of DIVA, announced this new stage at the DIVA Awards 2024. During this period DIVA has already begun its mission to bring issues affecting LGBTQIA women and non-binary people to the spotlight with its recent Fertility Justice Campaign, partnering with organisations like LGBT Mummies, Stonewall, and more.

In a powerful speech she gave at the DIVA Awards 2024, Nancy spoke about the vital change that needs to take place to protect LGBTQIA people globally. “In a world where the backlash against our rights is increasingly fierce – DIVA is going to be there, with you – with us, every step of the way,” she said. “We will be a mirror – reflecting your life and your world back to you. We will be a stage – celebrating your incredible talent, creativity and drive. And we will be a megaphone – amplifying the voice and reach of LGBTQIA women and non-binary people fighting for liberation and justice here in the UK and around the world.”

Former Publisher Linda Riley, who announced the appointment of Nancy Kelley as Chief Executive during the DIVA Awards in April, also spoke about the power of this new era for the magazine. “The impact we have already seen has been beyond anything I could have hoped for, but there is so much more we can, and need, to do, and I know that this is the right way to achieve that.”

Editor-in-chief Roxy Bourdillon commented about the bold new era that DIVA will be entering with its new charity status: “As we embark on this evolution for DIVA, I am so excited about the future,” she commented. “This new chapter is about making even more people in our intersectional, international community feel seen, celebrated and, crucially, championed.”

DIVA magazine celebrates 30 years in print in 2024. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
