Former Lioness and BBC presenter Alex Scott has revealed that online trolls threatened to throw acid in her face.
The beloved queer icon opened up about the ānegatives to fameā in a recent interview with The Times. She said that much of this negativity stemmed from rumours of her replacing Sue Baker as a host of A Question Of Sport.
āI was scared to go out of the house because these trolls were saying they were going to throw acid in my face,ā she lamented. āBut luckily there are other people who keep me smiling. Theyāll come up to me in my local shop and say, āKeep going,ā and thatās what I do.ā
These rumours ultimately turned out to be false as Paddy McGuinness took over hosting the show.
This was not the first time that Alex was subject to online trolling. In July last year, she spoke at the GQ Heroes event about the emotional cost of wearing the One Love armband at the Qatar World Cup. DespiteĀ itĀ being banned, the footballer made the brave choiceĀ to still wear the symbol of LGBTQIA inclusion in football.Ā
Speaking about the cost of making that decision, Alex said: āThe hate. The death threats. And do you know what? ItāsĀ actuallyĀ sad that Iām like āItās nothing newā.āĀ
Her decision to wear the One Love armband earned Alex the LSEG Media Moment of the Year in the DIVA Awards 2023.
Alex is believed to be in running to replace Gary Lineker as host of the BBCās Match Of The Day.Ā
