DIVA exclusive with Michaela Jaé Rodriguez 

The star speaks to Yasmin Vince about trans representation, her latest film and why we need to keep pushing for LGBTQIA rights in our Dec/Jan issue

Michaela Jaé Rodriguez completely transformed the media industry in her trailblazing role of Blanca Evangelista in the hit show Pose. Since then she has gone on to make history, becoming the first trans woman to win a Golden Globe. Recently, she starred in the feature film Skincare alongside Elizabeth Banks. 

The icon speaks to Yasmin Vince about her role in Skincare, the future of trans actors on screen, and the impact she hopes to make on the community. You can read the full interview in our December/January issue which you can order on divadirect.info.

On how she relates to her Skincare character Marine: “I’ve definitely been in those positions before. Maybe not in the workspace, but in life.”

On what drives her: “What keeps my desire burning is my love for not just the arts, but the lives that I influence.”

On the future for trans actors: “I hope at some point we don’t have to have a specific spotlight when it comes to our transness.”
