Trans charity, Not A Phase, is set to hold its largest vigil yet to honour the lives of the trans community lost this year. Events will be coordinated in London, Manchester, Wales and Margate on 20 November, Trans Day of Remembrance (TDOR).

The multi-site event is an opportunity for trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming people and their allies to come together and honour those who have died as a result of their trans identity.

Chief Exec of Not A Phase, Danielle St James, said: “Over the past 12 months, we have once again tragically lost people globally to anti-trans+ violence. Our vigils to mark TDOR provide a moment to come together, to light candles and take time to honour these lives. Even with the sombre tone of this event, we are so grateful to be able to cultivate a comforting and united space to be together each year.”

TDOR began 25 years ago, as a vigil to honour the memory of Rita Hester, a trans woman who lost her life in a transphobic attack in 1998.

Those attending the vigils set up by Not A Phase will hear from the Pink Singers, Europe’s longest running LGBTQIA choir, as well as community leaders. There are a limited number of spaces available for those present to share their experiences too. Anyone who wants to take part should contact Not A Phase on Instagram

The events are taking place in Soho Square (London), Bute Park (Cardiff), Sackville Gardens (Manchester) and Duke Street (Margate). They will all begin at 6:30pm. Candles will be provided for those who would like to show their respect.
