It’s hard to believe that The Fosters, the beloved show about a diverse, blended family tackling everything from identity to love, aired its final episode in 2018. Created by Peter Paige and Bradley Bredeweg, the series was celebrated for its groundbreaking representation of LGBTQIA characters and its commitment to showing complex, real-world issues. But what have the cast members been up to since their days in the Foster-Adams family? Here’s where they are now!
Maia Mitchell (Callie Adams Foster)
Maia Mitchell’s portrayal of Callie brought depth and nuance to a young woman navigating the foster care system and her own identity. Since The Fosters, Maia has reprised her role as Callie in the spinoff series Good Trouble, where Callie’s journey continued as she pursued a career in law and advocacy. But in 2022, Maia announced her decision to leave Good Trouble to focus on family and personal projects in her home country, Australia. Although fans were sad to see her go, Maia remains active on social media, hinting at new projects on the horizon.
Cierra Ramirez (Mariana Adams Foster)
Cierra Ramirez transitioned seamlessly from The Fosters to Good Trouble, where Mariana’s journey continued in Los Angeles as a tech innovator breaking down barriers in a male-dominated field. Outside of acting, Cierra has been pursuing a music career, releasing singles and performing around the US. Known for her strong connection with fans, Cierra often posts updates on her music and life on social media. She’s not only thriving as a Latina artist but continues to champion diversity and inclusion in Hollywood.
Teri Polo (Stef Foster)
As Stef Foster, Teri Polo played the compassionate yet strong-willed police officer and mother, a role that earned her a devoted following. Since The Fosters, Teri has appeared in various television movies and guest roles, but she’s also embraced a quieter life outside of Hollywood. She’s continued to support LGBTQIA causes and has taken on projects with her longtime charity partner, GLSEN, which advocates for inclusive school environments. Teri recently hinted at a few upcoming film roles, so we might be seeing her on the big screen again soon!
Sherri Saum (Lena Adams Foster)
Sherri Saum brought warmth and grace to the role of Lena, the nurturing school administrator. Since The Fosters, she’s taken on recurring roles in shows like Roswell, New Mexico and Locke & Key, expanding her already impressive portfolio. Off-screen, Sherri continues to use her platform to advocate for social issues, particularly around education and racial justice. She’s also a proud mother to her twins, sharing snapshots of her family life with fans on Instagram.
David Lambert (Brandon Foster)
As the musically gifted and sensitive Brandon, David Lambert’s character was often at the emotional centre of The Fosters. Since the show ended, David has kept a relatively low profile but has appeared in a handful of independent films. He’s also been busy exploring theatre, his first love, performing in various stage productions.
Hayden Byerly (Jude Adams Foster)
Hayden Byerly made history as one of the youngest actors to portray an openly gay character on television. Since The Fosters, Hayden has taken a step back from acting to focus on advocacy and education. He’s co-founded a nonprofit organisation called Equality Is Love, which aims to support LGBTQIA youth and their families. Hayden has also spoken publicly about mental health, using his platform to shed light on these issues and to encourage young people to seek help when they need it.
