Queer Britain, the UK’s first and only national LGBTQIA museum, has announced Andrew Given as their new director.
Given is currently the Director of Development at the English National Opera and will be replacing Joseph Galliano-Doig MBE, the Founding Director of Queer Britain. Under Galliano-Doig’s leadership, Queer Britain opened and thrived as a cornerstone of LGBTQIA British history. He will assume the honorary title of Director Emeritus during the transition.
On his departure, Galliano-Doig said: “Getting the UK’s first LGBTQ+ museum up and running has been the greatest pleasure of my working life so far. But I’m so happy to pass the baton onto a leader that I have a huge amount of respect for and who I have no doubt will lift Queer Britain to even greater heights.”
Incoming Director Given said he was thrilled to be leading such an inspirational team. “It will be an honour to build upon the fantastic work of Joseph Galliano-Doig, and to take Queer Britain onto its next phase.”
Founded in 2018, Queer Britain is dedicated to preserving, celebrating and sharing the rich and diverse histories of the UK’s LGBTQIA community. It is a free-entry museum. More information can be located on their website.
