Married At First Sight UK’s (MAFS UK) sapphic couple got hitched in the second episode of season nine. Charlie and Eve seemed utterly besotted with each other as they met for the first time at the end of the aisle.
In the episode that aired 17 September, viewers got to know more about the couple before watching them get married. Charlie, a 30-year-old operations coordinator, had been single for four years. She described herself as “your classic lesbian”, and added that she falls in love quickly but is often friendzoned.
Meanwhile, Eve, a lifeguard and fitness coach from Northern Ireland, revealed that she didn’t know anyone gay growing up and this meant it took her a long time to realise she was a lesbian. As such, she had been engaged to a man when she was 24.
On paper, the two are exactly what the other was looking for. Charlie said she likes a “masculine energy” and an Irish accent, both of which Eve has in buckets. Eve said she was looking for an feminine, energetic girl, which, again, applied to Charlie.
Thankfully, this translated into an instant connection in person. As the couple reached the end of the aisle, both made it clear that they felt attracted to each other. During the ceremony, the two hugged several times. The ‘L’ word (love, not lesbian) was even mentioned during Charlie’s talking heads.
The brides are the second sapphic couple to appear on MAFS UK. Jenna Robinson and Zoe Clifton participated in season seven. Two years on, the pair are still as in love as they were on the show and plan to get legally married.
Hopefully, Charlie and Eve will share the same future, but things did not look as promising in the “next time” sneak peek at the end of episode two. In the snippet, there seemed to be tears on the horizon as Charlie’s anger at being constantly left alone while on honeymoon made Eve cry.
MAFS UK continues on E4 tonight.
