Representation matters – and when bisexual characters come out on screen, it’s a moment that resonates deeply with so many. From emotional confessions to matter-of-fact declarations, these four coming-out scenes filled our hearts with queer joy and reminded us of the power of visibility.

Rosa Diaz – Brooklyn Nine-Nine

When tough-as-nails detective Rosa Diaz (played by Stephanie Beatriz) came out as bisexual in Brooklyn Nine-Nine, it wasn’t just a pivotal moment for the character – it was a huge win for bi representation on mainstream TV. This simple, no-frills confession felt refreshingly real. Rosa’s bisexuality is treated with respect and care throughout the series, particularly during her heartfelt coming out to her parents, where we see her vulnerability in full force. Watching a character as strong and guarded as Rosa open up about her bisexuality was a gift to queer fans everywhere.

Petra Solano – Jane The Virgin

Petra Solano’s coming out on Jane The Virgin took us all by surprise – and we loved every second of it. After a string of relationships with men, Petra (played by Yael Grobglas) starts dating JR, a woman who challenges her in all the right ways. In one of the show’s most heartwarming moments, Petra confesses her feelings for JR, saying, “I’m really into you.” Jane The Virgin managed to break down stereotypes with a bisexual character who wasn’t defined by her sexuality, making this love story feel all the more special.

Annalise Keating – How To Get Away With Murder

Powerful, complex, and utterly captivating, Annalise Keating (played by Viola Davis) was a force of nature from the start. In How To Get Away With Murder, the moment Annalise’s bisexuality is revealed isn’t a big speech or dramatic scene – it’s a quiet, intimate moment between her and her ex-girlfriend Eve. The subtle way her past relationships with women are woven into the show feels groundbreaking. Annalise, a fierce and powerful Black woman, being openly bisexual on screen was a revelation. Her queerness wasn’t sensationalised but simply a part of who she was, offering a rare portrayal of bisexuality in a high-stakes legal drama.

Nick Nelson – Heartstopper

Sometimes, the most beautiful coming-out moments are the quietest ones. In Heartstopper, Nick Nelson (played by Kit Connor) grapples with his bisexuality throughout the first season of the show. In a heartfelt conversation with his mum, played by Olivia Colman, Nick finally comes out. The softness of this scene, and his mother’s gentle acceptance, brought so much warmth to our screens. Nick’s coming out isn’t just about understanding himself – it’s a celebration of his journey to self-acceptance. In a world where bisexuality is often misunderstood, Nick’s story in Heartstopper was a beacon of queer joy for fans of all ages.
