British Athlete Richard Whitehead MBE and broadcaster Adele Roberts will be encouraging people from all backgrounds to join in their inclusive running event on 15 September. Run To The Future will take place at the iconic Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park offering anyone the chance to take part in a 2k and 5k run.
Supported by Nissan, this event will allow participants to walk, run, roll, or push around the venue which hosted the 2012 Olympic Games. Trained Support Runners provided by the Richard Whitehead Foundation will be there on the day to help individuals with disabilities complete the course and can be requested on sign up.
Former DIVA cover star Adele Roberts said: “Everyone should be comfortable to participate in or attend any sporting event, so we’re aiming to create an inclusive space for the LGBTQIA community and our allies, family and friends. I can’t wait to take part and see everyone there.”
Gold-medal-winning athlete Richard Whitehead added: “Disabled people sometimes don’t feel confident enough to enter sporting events. As a Paralympic athlete and distance runner, I feel it’s something we should change.
“Whatever the race, whatever the distance, it’s always a chance to give back to the running community and inspire the disability community, so I’d encourage people to sign up for the event and give it a go!”
The Run To The Future 5k event will start at 10:30 am, and the 2k start time will be noon. Entries cost £15 which includes chip-timed results, an event medal and post-race goodies. DIVA readers can access a discount on their tickets with the code: Nissan10.
