The trend, started by Jools Lebron, began when the beauty influencer showed her professional makeup look to TikTok, calling it “very demure, very mindful”.

The meme then blew up online, with celebrities from Lily Collins to Penn Badgley participating.

In a recent video from Jools, she explained how the “Demure” trend changed her life.

“Hey, maybe you should make the videos. Because one day I was playing cashier and making videos on my break and now I’m flying across countries to host events and I’m gonna be able to finance the rest of my transition,” she said in a TikTok video posted on 17 August.

Julia Fox wrote to the “demure” icon with support in a TikTok comment: “I’ve been following you for over two years and let me just say this is so overdue. You’ve always been that girl.”

Girls supporting girls is very demure, very mindful.

The self-confessed “Miss Demure” has over 100 million likes and nearly two million followers on TikTok and speaks candidly about her experience as a trans woman.

She told her followers: “Growing up, I never saw myself as a boy… I was always like, ‘Oh I’m the girl’. People would make fun of me for being gay, for playing with dolls. It never clicked with me because, in my mind, I’m a fierce diva.”

“I had gay uncles but I was like… that’s not me. He’s not a diva, that’s a grown man.”
