Sophia Bush is an American actor known for starring in the series One Tree Hill and later Chicago P.D. Sophia has had a long and successful career in Hollywood, and has starred in films such as John Tucker Must Die and The Incredibles 2.
The One Tree Hill alum came out as queer in 2024 after previously being married to her co-star Chad Michael Murray and later businessman Grant Hughes. Intrigued to know more about the star? Below are five facts you might not know…
Sophia has used her platform to advocate for a range of different causes
Sophia has been part of fundraisers for causes such as gay rights, women’s education and the environment. She is a founding member of the Time’s Up movement which supports victims of sexual harassment and was founded in response to the Me Too movement. In 2022, she and ex-partner Grant Hughes wrote an essay for Glamour supporting abortion rights. She uses her social media platforms and her blog to raise awareness of issues that are important to her and In 2018 she was given the Nelson Mandela changemaker award for her activism.
She’s a certified dog lover.
At one point she even had 13 in her house. Her love for animals began at a young age, rescuing her first dog at age 6. In a tribute post to her beloved pet Penny who passed away, she encouraged others to adopt.
“Adopt a dog if you’ve ever wanted to. It’ll change your life. It’ll blow your heart open and teach you how big it is. It’ll fill your house with laughter and love. And leave you better than you were before.”
She is dating Ashlyn Harris
In 2023, Sophia Bush filed for a divorce from her husband Grant Hughes. In April 2024 she announced her relationship with former American soccer player, Ashlyn Harris. For her Glamour cover story, she wrote: “I sort of hate the notion of having to come out in 2024. But I’m deeply aware that we are having this conversation in a year when we’re seeing the most aggressive attacks on the LGBTQIA+ community in modern history. There were more than 500 anti-LGBTQIA+ bills proposed in state legislatures in 2023, so for that reason I want to give the act of coming out the respect and honour it deserves. I’ve experienced so much safety, respect, and love in the queer community, as an ally all of my life, that, as I came into myself, I already felt it was my home. I think I’ve always known that my sexuality exists on a spectrum. Right now, I think the word that best defines it is queer. I can’t say it without smiling, actually. And that feels pretty great.”
Stunts? She does most of her own
Sophia is a daredevil on and offscreen. Did you know that she did almost all of her stunts for The Hitcher, including the full spin? While filming Chicago P.D the production team allowed her to do the stunt driving.
“It’s usually teams of stunt drivers doing the driving, but they’ve all gotten to know me, and they know that I’ve become quite the amateur race car driver myself,” she told The Wrap. “They let me do all of my own stunt driving on the show.”
She hosts two podcasts
Sophia is most well known for her acting career, but she also hosts the podcasts Work In Progress and Drama Queens.
Work in Progress features Sophia interviewing a variety of guests in a series of honest chats about their progress and aims for the future. The idea is that your life can be both a masterpiece and a work in progress at the same time. Guests that have featured on the show have included Jane Fonda and Amit Rahav.
Her other podcast Drama Queens, which she hosts with co-stars Hilarie Burton Morgan and Bethany Joy Lenz, sees them rewatch the popular teen drama, One Tree Hill Bush which all three starred in. We don’t know about drama, but Bush is definitely a queen for being able to fit all of these commitments in her schedule!
