Australian actor Rebel Wilson has been a legend since we first saw her on our screens. She’s been in some incredible films and back in 2022 she also came out to be part of the queer community. We were pleased to see the Aussie star have her first onscreen kiss with a woman in the emotional new film The Almond And The Seahorse.
So if, like us, you can’t get enough of Rebel, here are six fun facts you probably didn’t know about the icon.
This is how she chose her career path…
Rebel travelled to Mozambique during high school aged 19. She contracted malaria and was put into intensive care. She hallucinated that she was winning an Academy Award and rapping her speech. After she recovered, she told her family and friends that this vision had convinced her to pursue an acting career;
She went by the name Melanie during school
Rebel attended a Christian girl’s school and decided that her first name might give off the wrong impression and so she went by her middle name, Melanie, instead.
Her family is really into the dog show world
So much so that her mum is an international dog show judge. Rebel was also a junior handler when she was younger AND she is the host of Rebel Wilson’s Pooch Perfect – a reality TV series about dog grooming.
She’s wicked smart
She scored 99.3% on her higher school certificate, which is used to apply for university in Australia. This was due to spending the majority of her time in the library. The girl’s got brains!
AND holds a law degree
Honestly I think the question really is now, what can’t she do? Rebel studied at one of the most prestigious universities in Australia (not a surprise from her test results!).
She was almost “outed” by an Australian newspaper
In 2022 Rebel Wilson took to Instagram to announce her girlfriend. Among all the excitement from her fans, there was a sour undertone as she was not ready to come out. Two days after she made the Instagram post a columnist for the Sydney Morning Herald disclosed the newspaper’s plan to out Rebel Wilson’s new relationship before she could come out herself.
