Back in 2004, Dame Kelly Holmes made history with her Double Olympic Gold medal wins, and 2024 marks the 20th anniversary of this incredible achievement. One of the things Kelly is doing to celebrate this anniversary is taking part in a fundraising trek to Machu Picchu, Peru in September (Wednesday 4 – Friday 13 September) in aid of her charity, Dame Kelly Holmes Trust. This journey will also fulfil a lifelong dream to visit the site.
So if you fancy yourself a unique experience of getting involved in reaching the World Heritage site while shoulder to shoulder with an Olympic champion and national treasure, then you should register today! The trek itself is a once-in-a-lifetime experience, made even more special by Kelly’s attendance.
The lost city of Machu Picchu features on the bucket list of many a wanderlust-filled traveller, and for good reason – it’s an unforgettable experience.
The Machu Picchu challenge takes trekkers through the Ancascocha trail that is surrounded by the Andean mountains and sublime remote scenery. The challenge will be supported by experienced leaders and guides. The hike will be at a slow pace and allow for acclimatisation to the altitude. Exhaustion is promised to turn into euphoria as hikers step through the Sun Gate to witness the magic of Machu Picchu.
You can find out more about the experience and register here. Warning: Deadline to register is end of May 2024.
