On Sunday (10 March) the singer-songwriter Reneé Rapp hit the red carpet for Vanity Fair’s Oscars afterparty alongside musician Towa Bird, with the outlet alleging this was not just any appearance.

Reneé Rapp and Towa Bird make their red carpet debut as a couple,” the Vanity Fair TikTok caption read. The pair looked incredibly fashionable, with Towa wearing an embroidered suit whilst wrapping an arm around the Not My Fault singer posing in a floor-length white dress.

This potential relationship debut comes after months of fan speculation about the duo dating after Towa began opening for Reneé during her Snow Hard Feelings tour.

Currently, neither of the musicians have confirmed their relationship on social media, although Reneé’s Instagram post on 7 March had fans questioning a potential soft launch. In a European tour photo dump, Reneé shared an image of the pair appearing to lean in closely for a kiss, and fans quickly responded to the snap. “Reneé I know you know we know,” one commenter joked.

The Tummy Hurts singer previously identified as bisexual until she recently reaffirmed her identity as a lesbian, including during a Saturday Night Live sketch on 20 January referring to herself casually as a “little lesbian intern”.

“I’ve only just recently started referring to myself as a lesbian, and I’ve only recently been in a relationship where I’m like, ‘Yeah, I’m a lesbian for sure,’” she explained in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on 28 February.

The singer continued: “I’m watching all these movies and parts of gay culture, specifically lesbian culture, and I’m like, ‘I love this’. It’s also been the most rewarding, validating, scary and exciting experience ever.”

Reneé is a consistent advocate for on-screen representation and is no stranger to queer roles. She describes her role as preppy lesbian Leighton on The Sex Lives Of College Girls as one that “changed my life” and recently revealed her belief that her version of Regina George in Mean Girls (2024) is queer.

“To me, that was always a conversation around the (original Mean Girls) film: This is coming from a queer place,” Reneé elaborated. “That was always my interpretation of it. It might not be other people’s, and I truly don’t care. It’s mine, and that’s how I feel.”
