In a blaze of glitter and baby oil, emerging theatre company piss/CARNATION is set to take London by storm with their sensational debut 52 Monologues For Young Transsexuals. Following a triumphant run at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival last August, this raucous cabaret promises to dive headfirst into the raw realities of self-discovery as a trans woman, embracing the messy, painful, and brutally honest journey.
The highly anticipated cabaret will take place in the Soho Theatre between 4 March – 16 March.
Dynamic duo of Laurie Ward and Charli Cowgill are behind this captivating production that weaves together outrageous lip-syncing, empowering audience participation, hilarious comedy routines, and poignant monologues. This electric performance guarantees a fever dream for both sides of the emotional spectrum for all audiences.
Creator and performer Laurie Ward said: “We are so beyond excited to be bringing our twisted little baby to Soho theatre. It’s been a CRAZY year – from making work together as students in a church cellar to now presenting that same work at such an incredible theatre. The most exciting thing remains that we will invite more and more people into our strange and twisted hot-pink universe. We hope people will emerge feeling less alone, or like they have learned, in the words of Madonna, ‘What it Feels Like for a Girl’…”
52 Monologues For Young Transsexuals transcends conventional boundaries, exploring a range of themes from pleasure to pagan ritual, Barbara Streisand to BDSM, and spit to Skepta. Rooted in verbatim interviews with trans women, the production provides an authentic portrait of trans life, shedding light on topics such as sex, guilt, shame, BDSM, and the complexities of dating. The result is a kaleidoscope of lived experiences, inviting the audience to laugh, cry, and forge a deep connection with Charli and Laurie as they navigate through the raucous, riotous, and intimate revelations of the performance.
As the curtains rise on this groundbreaking production, audiences are encouraged to prepare for an unforgettable journey where laughter, tears, and gasps intertwine. 52 Monologues For Young Transsexuals is not merely a performance; it’s an invitation to witness the unfiltered and authentic narratives of trans women, making it a must-see event in the heart of Soho.
