Jeanie Finlay’s highly anticipated documentary Your Fat Friend was released today (9 February) in UK and Irish cinemas. Following the rise of writer and LGBTQIA activist Aubrey Gordon from anonymous blogger to NYTimes best-selling author and beloved podcaster, Your Fat Friend looks at the life-changing work that Aubrey does to change the way we see fat people and the fat on our own bodies.
Over the span of six years, Finlay skillfully captures the journey of Aubrey Gordon and explores the themes of a family, the complexities of change, and the deep, messy feelings we hold about our bodies.
Having premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival, the documentary has since been showcased at various festivals, including the Edinburgh International Film Festival, DMZ International Documentary Film Festival, and Sheffield DocFest, where it clinched the coveted Audience Award.
Jeanie Finlay said: “Experiencing audience reactions to the film I have made as we have toured film festivals around the world has been so moving. People have connected very strongly with Aubrey, her family and the complexity of navigating her work to end anti-fat bias. The film has prompted many emotional conversations.”
Your Fat Friend is now available to watch in cinemas across the UK now. Tickets are available at www.yrfatfriendfilm.com
