10 festive songs to listen to this Queermas

Get ready to play these tunes on repeat to make the Yuletide gay

BY SCARLETT COUGHLAN

Ready to make the Yuletide gay? Here are 10 Queermas tunes to help you on your way.

Whatever you’re in the mood for – dancing your heart out, snogging under the mistletoe, sobbing into your red wine – we’ve got you covered.

And – they’re all by queer female and non-binary artists. You’re welcome!

Best sapphic: girl in red – two queens in a king sized bed

This one’s on the more melancholy side of the Christmas song spectrum – but more in a sultry, sexy sapphic way than a Scrooge one. Just dreamy.

Best hip hop: Kehlani – Lonely In December

It’s hard to believe that Kehlani released this in 2014. Never getting over their delicious vocals in this one.

Best duo: Tegan and Sara – Make You Mine This Season

Indie dreaminess with a Christmas sprinkle of Europop? Yes, please.

Best from a film: Jingle Bell Rock

It wouldn’t be Christmas without listening to the Mean Girls version of Jingle Bell Rock for the hundredth time. Hopefully, the 2024 reimagining will be even gayer.

Best for cute-factor: Darcy Fox – She Loves Christmas Time

A story of learning to love Christmas again. It’s beautiful – just listen to it already.

Best small artist: Maya Wagner – Santa Baby

Maya Wagner’s cover of Santa Baby is giving us all the joyous jazziness we need this Queermas. And, with its sped-up tempo, it’s the perfect song to have a boogie to.

Best country: Melissa Etheridge – Christmas in America

This is one country banger of a Christmas song. If you want something a little different to the traditional Christmas tune, this one’s for you. Giddy up Rudolph, yeehaw!

Best ally: Ariana Grande – Santa Tell Me

With a myriad of festive tunes, Ariana is our Christmas angel ally year in, year out. Santa Tell Me is the most catchy of the bunch and her vocals are smoother than the Bailey’s you’re probably drinking right now.

Best sad-girl Christmas song: Phoebe Bridgers – So Much Wine

So Much Wine from Phoebe’s Christmas EP is a shining diamond of a Christmas song. It’s also really sad. Like really sad. Don’t blame us if it ruins your Christmas.

Best cover: Miley Cyrus, Mark Ronson ft. Sean Ono Lennon – Happy Xmas (War is Over)

A Christmas classic, sung by our favourite pansexual queen. Miley, you make all our Christmas dreams come true.
