Ted Lasso icon Hannah Waddingham proved once again that her allyship to the LGBTQIA community is unwavering. In an interview with Attitude magazine about her new festival special, Hannah spoke about her love and support for the queer community.

“It wouldn’t cross my mind to not lift the LGBTQ community up,” she explained after being asked about being an ally. She also said that being an ally of the queer community is “everything” to her.

“Too often, people look at the exterior of the LGBTQIA community,” Hannah continued. “It’s why I wanted to do RuPaul’s Drag Race, because I wanted to take a look into the brilliant performers people are as well, and to not just be defined by the obvious things that everyone else defines them by.”

When asked what message she had for the LGBTQIA community during this period, she had a simple but powerful message. “Hold each other close,” she said.

Hannah has become a queer icon throughout her career due to her fabulous performances in West End shows such as Spamalot, A Little Night Music, and Kiss Me, Kate. She also hosted LGBTQIA-favourite Eurovision in 2023 which, as everyone knows, is the campest show of the year.

Her musical special – Hannah Waddingham: Home for Christmas – is available to stream on Apple TV+ now.

DIVA magazine will celebrate 30 years in print in 2024. If you like what we do, then get behind LGBTQIA media and keep us going for another generation. Your support is invaluable.
