Jodie Foster is quite simply one of the greatest actors of our generation. The two-time Oscar-winning star has been bringing us some of the most iconic performances of all time such as her role in the infamous The Silence Of The Lambs. More recently Jodie has wowed audiences with her portrayal of Bonnie Stoll in LGBTQIA biopic Nyad, starring alongside Annette Bening who plays the legendary swimmer Diana Nyad.
Photographer, director, and actor Alexandra Hedison has also brought us some iconic roles including The L Word’s very own Dylan Moreland. She is a keen photographer and has had exhibitions across the world from London to LA.
This power couple have been bringing us queer joy since 2014 – let’s take a trip down memory lane to see their love story come to life.
2013: Jodie Foster infamously announces that she is single
At the 2013 Golden Globes, Jodie Foster’s acceptance speech for her Cecil B DeMille Award went down in history when she used it as an opportunity to come out publicly.
“Seriously, I hope you’re not disappointed that there won’t be a big coming-out speech tonight because I already did my coming out about a thousand years ago back in the Stone Age, in those very quaint days when a fragile young girl would open up to trusted friends and family and co-workers and then gradually, proudly to everyone who knew her, to everyone she actually met,” she said on stage.
Jodie thanked her ex-partner Cydney Bernard for being her “heroic co-parent” and “righteous soul sister in life” whilst also announcing that she was in fact single.
2014: Jodie Foster and Alexandra Hedison get married in private
While the couple have kept the details of their intimate wedding private, we do know that they tied the knot in 2014!
Jan 2018: The pair attend a Women’s March together
In January 2018, Alexandra shared a powerful photo of Jodie and her friends taking part in a women’s march. The Nyad actor held up a sign that read “The future is female” alongside dozens of other marchers.
Jodie has been a vocal feminist throughout her career, and even during her lifetime achievement award speech at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021, she spoke about the importance of women in the film industry. “This is the moment for women to enter the industry,” she said.
In an interview with EWA, she also said that her way of being a feminist was through her acting career.
February 2021: Alexandra shares a candid snap of Jodie to celebrate her Golden Globes nomination
Alexandra showed her undying support for her wife after Jodie was nominated for Best Performance By An Actress In A Supporting Role In Any Motion Picture for her role in Mauritanian at the Golden Globes 2021. Showing an intimate moment taken by @brettglam, the post captured the love and care between the couple beautifully.
“What happens in quarantine stays in quarantine,” Alexandra wrote in the caption. “Every day I’m a proud wife but today you get a special shout-out in the remote land of IG. I’ll have to show you my phone for you to see this but still…I’m shouting from the rooftops. Congratulations to you, @taharrahimofficiel & everyone involved in this important film @themauritanian #goldenglobes.”
March 2021: The pair kiss after Jodie wins the Golden Globe for best supporting actress
Not too long after Alexandra congratulated her wife on her nomination, the pair were celebrating Jodie’s win together. In a rare moment, we saw the couple share an excited kiss as Jodie accepted the award over Zoom due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The pair were also joined adorably by their dog!
July 2021: Alexandra celebrates Jodie’s honorary Palme d’Or at Cannes
After a lifetime of iconic performances, Jodie Foster was awarded an honorary Palme d’Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2021. Alexandra took to Instagram to post a stunning picture of the actor with the caption: “Proud of my wife #lifetimeachievementaward”. We love a supportive wife!
November 2023: Alexandra celebrates Jodie’s 61st birthday
More recently, Alexandra posted a picture of a smiling Jodie with the caption “Loving you is easy as cake. Happy birthday, beautiful”. We are absolutely obsessed with this couple and we can’t wait to continue seeing them share their lives together.
