If you’ve ever wondered what it would be like to witness a bleach-blonde Anne Hathaway slowly seduce Thomasin McKenzie in a crazy thriller, Eileen might just be the movie for you. The official trailer has just dropped, teasing audiences with clips of incredibly sapphic tension between the two actors.

Based on Ottessa Moshfegh’s thriller, Eileen follows the story of a strange and slightly disturbing secretary named (you guessed it) Eileen who works in a juvenile detention centre. Eileen (Thomasin McKenzie) is… different from those around her, to say the least. When she’s not being ostracised by her colleagues at work, she lives at home with her alcoholic father.

Her monotonous life changes, however, when the detention centre receives a new psychologist – the enigmatic Rebecca (Anne Hathaway). Their instant connection and sexual tension take the pair down a spiral of chaos, with twists and turns at every corner.

Described as “thrilling” by Attitude Magazine and “a compelling journey into twisted immorality” by Total Film, Eileen is sure to be a nail-biting watch this winter. Directed by William Oldroyd, known for Lady Macbeth (2016), Eileen promises to give audiences more than what may appear on the surface.

With shots of Thomasin McKenzie holding a gun, Anne Hathaway looking both terrified and sensationalised, and the undertones of something heavily unsettling, Eileen breaks away from all sapphic tropes we have seen in recent years.

Eileen will be in cinemas on 1 December. Get ready for a rollercoaster ride.
