BY DIVA STAFF
Join us in the Facebook DIVA Community on Thursday eveningās for our new series of live sessions. Whether itās a workout session, webinar, comedy or art, there will be something for you in the coming weeks.
In the next instalment of the series, Nutritional Therapist and Health Coach, Alison Chappell will be leading the Menopause and Me webinar, a space where we can openly discuss symptoms and how manage the changes that your body is going through.
Launched as a way of bringing the LGBTQI community closer together with everything thatās happening in the world right now, the Facebook-based, digital hangout DIVA Community has grown to a membership of over 10,000 women, non-binary people and allies, hailing from all around the globe. Pretty impressive, eh? So we thought itās time to give back to you wonderful lot.
Peri-menopause (the time when a woman approaches menopause) and menopause (when a womanās menstrual cycle ceases) are natural processes, but many women find the different array of symptoms uncomfortable and confusing. As a society, we donāt talk openly about the many symptoms that happen as your hormones fluctuate (hot flushes, mood swings, weight gain, joint pain, bloating, cravings etc.) and itās easy to feel that you canāt trust your body or mind to behave ānormallyā anymore. In this webinar, Alison will explain why these symptoms occur, whatās happening to your hormones and how you can reduce your symptoms and achieve better health through diet and lifestyle.
Alison Chappell is our host for this weekās session and she has been learning about nutrition for the last 20 years. Speaking to DIVA about her career, she explained: āI suppose it began when my partner and I hit our mid 30s and realised that we couldnāt manage the late nights and early mornings of our teens and 20s. We both saw a nutritional therapist and that was the first time that I started to realise that the diet of ready meals, takeaways and eating out wasnāt likely to work for us anymore!ā
āBy the time we were in our 40s, we were working long hours, lots of stress, and better, but still pretty poor eating habits. Our health was suffering, and I decided I wanted to do something about it. I qualified as a Nutritional Therapist and juggled working part time as a Deputy Chief Executive of a large Charity and setting up my Nutritional Therapy practice. In 2016, I hit the peri-menopause and my partner had a hysterectomy and I decided to change my lifestyle and focus full time on my business. I now help women to work out what is best for their bodies and minds at this crucial stage of our lives.ā
