Love is in the air already this November! After first meeting at the Rio Olympics back in 2016, queer sport icons Megan Rapinoe and Sue Bird this weekend announced their engagement with an image capturing the special moment, and congratulations are certainly in order.

Megan Rapinoe is co-captain of the United States women’s national team and Sue Bird plays for WNBA’s Seattle Storm and has won four Olympic gold medals with the US basketball team, making them two of America’s best athletes.

By posting the same picture of Megan down on one knee on their Instagram accounts without any caption to explain, fans went into a frenzy online. It didn’t take long for Seattle Storm to confirm the engagement.

The team tweeted: “Congrats to THE power couple on their engagement!!!”

The congratulations didn’t stop there either. US presidential candidate Joe Biden was even among those to congratulate the happy couple by tweeting a message saying: “Love will always win.”

We couldn’t be happier for the pair – their engagement has seriously brightened up 2020!
